France, US, Syria confirm commitment to Damascus' political transition

(MENAFN) France, the United States, and Syria reaffirmed their dedication to supporting Syria's political transition, preserving its territorial integrity, and promoting stability in the Middle East. This commitment came after high-level trilateral discussions held in Paris, where French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack as part of ongoing cooperation on Syrian affairs.

Describing the meeting as candid and constructive, all parties emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation and renewed dialogue. They agreed to swiftly undertake meaningful efforts to ensure Syria’s successful political transition, unity, sovereignty, and territorial wholeness.

The three nations also reaffirmed their shared goal to combat terrorism in all forms by enhancing cooperation and supporting Syrian government institutions to manage security challenges effectively.

Regarding national reconciliation, they voiced their support for local dialogue initiatives, particularly focusing on northeastern Syria and Suwayda, to promote political cohesion and unity.

The French Foreign Ministry announced plans to soon host another round of talks in Paris between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces to fully implement the March 10 agreement.

Addressing recent unrest, the parties expressed backing for justice and accountability efforts, including endorsing transparent investigations into violent incidents, such as those reported in coastal regions.

Finally, they stressed the importance of ensuring that Syria’s neighbors do not threaten its stability, while Syria, in turn, commits not to threaten regional neighbors, all aimed at fostering broader regional peace and security.
